FALL EDITION

As we begin a new year filled with purpose and possibility, we’re reminded that growth thrives through curiosity, ambition, and courage. At A Better Chance of Wilton, these values shine through our Scholars—young leaders who set bold goals and work tirelessly to achieve them. We look forward to sharing this season of opportunity with the Wilton community and remain deeply grateful for the steadfast support that keeps our mission thriving.

Here’s a glimpse of what some of ABC of Wilton’s upperclassmen were up to this summer as they build their own foundations and prepare to pursue their higher‑education dreams:

Tifany Lopez (WHS ’27) — Traveled to Barcelona and Madrid, living with a host family and exploring food, politics, and culture. She now plans to pursue diplomacy studies in college.

Caylee Mullings (WHS ’28) — Attended a college program at Temple University for students interested in medicine and discovered a passion for dermatology.

Chinemerem Onyegbosi (WHS ’28) — Spent two weeks at Brown University exploring college life and academic opportunities.

Welcoming Freshman Scholar Erica Buwembo

A Better Chance of Wilton is excited to welcome freshman Scholar Erica Buwembo from Massachusetts. Erica brings curiosity, courage, and a megawatt smile to Wilton High School.  Leading with kindness and eager to try new things, she looks forward to four years of growth—on and off the court—with interests in basketball, meditation, reading, painting and music.

Senior Scholar Tifany Lopez

A Better Chance of Wilton proudly celebrates senior Tifany Lopez, whose dedication to her college applications reflects her academic excellence, personal growth, and leadership within the program. We look forward to cheering her on as she embraces this final chapter with confidence, compassion, and determination.

Scholars Embrace New Opportunities

Tifany and Chinemerem  were two of fifty students selected from more than 150 applicants to join Wilton High School’s Link Crew program. Crew members are chosen following the submission of written essays and teacher recommendations. Link Crew helps ease the transition for incoming ninth graders, fostering confidence and connection throughout their first year. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, the program trains juniors and seniors to serve as mentors and role models. As Link Crew Leaders, Tifany and Chinemerem guide freshmen in discovering what it takes to thrive in high school—promoting leadership, empathy, and community spirit. (Tifany is bottom row center and Chin is a few students to the right of top center.)

Returning Scholars brought their spirit of trying new things into the new school year, landing exciting opportunities along the way. Tifany and Chinemerem joined the WHS Color Guard, performing alongside the Marching Band as part of the flag squad.

Caylee proudly shows her school spirit as one of the newest members of the WHS Varsity Cheer Squad, bringing energy and enthusiasm to every game and event.

Scholars spent the day in Flushing Meadows watching their favorite tennis players try to advance at the US OPEN.

A heartfelt thank you to Advisor Emeritus Rich Nichol and his wife, Joan, for welcoming our Scholars to a wonderful day on Long Island Sound. Their generosity and hospitality made the experience truly special.

Thank you to our friends at Woodcock Nature Center for generously sharing their beautiful grounds and expertise as the Wilton, Ridgefield, and Guilford ABC programs came together for a day of nature and self‑care. Scholars hiked scenic trails, learned about local wildlife, and explored mindful ways to ease stress and build self‑awareness — gaining valuable tools for balance and well‑being.

A huge thank you to the Wilton Riverbrook Regional YMCA for making it possible for all Scholars to learn the life‑saving skill of swimming each Saturday morning. ABC of Wilton is so grateful for their partnership and commitment to Scholar safety and confidence.

Artistic Addition

A heartfelt thank‑you to Reverend David Graybill, ABC of Wilton’s co-founding father, for gifting his original fundraising painting, now proudly displayed at the front entry.

Thank you to everyone who makes the mission of A Better Chance of Wilton possible. Your generosity continues to strengthen our Scholars’ home, enrich their program, and expand the opportunities that shape their futures.
